The First Post! Curry!

Hi! I'm Graham and I've just graduated from Griffith University in Brisbane with a Bachelor of Animation. I've decided to create this little side blog as a fun project while I take a breather, eagerly awaiting the stress of a busy 2011.

With a lot of free time now on my hands, I've decided to improve my cooking skills - for fun, for my health and for good taste. Over the course of this blog, I'll try out several different vegetarian recipes so I can stay healthy and energetic - even while sitting at the computer and animating all day.

Graham's Weird Curry 8th December, 2010
I made some curry tonight, though I wouldn't say it was a success - too salty and I lacked some key ingredients, and the method was a little poor as well. It was a pretty eclectic curry using massaman curry paste, feta cheese (whoops...), onions, chickpeas, broad beans, peas and green beans. I added some vegetable stock on a whim, which turned out to be a bad idea... This was far too salty!

What I've learned from the experience of tonight's meal:

1) Use coconut milk in the earlier stages of this curry!
2) Paneer cheese (not feta!) should be added near the END of the recipe.
3) The frozen green vegetables ought to be boiled before adding them to the curry.
4) A sauce like kecap manis might be good in sweetening the curry.
5) Topping a curry with coconut flakes is pretty tasty.

I'll be trying this again soon using what I've learned to improve. I'm pretty sure I can get this too a good flavour! I should also be able to improve on my methods and make the process faster and cleaner.

Japanese Curry 8th December, 2010
I haven't made any Japanese style curry before, but I did some brief reading at a couple web sites and I'll try my hand at it soon. Here's the sites along with a few notes. Also! I will admit to my embarrassment that I didn't know how to hard boil an egg...

Notes: Find a vegetarian chicken substitute, or try this with no chicken thing at all!

Hard-Boiled Egg – 8th December 2010

Notes: A bit embarrassing, but it’s better to look it up than mess it up. This can be cut in half and placed over Japanese-style curry! It’s probably good.

That's all for tonight's post... I think in future that I should take photos of what I make. Might be more fun that way! Anyway... Once I'm satisfied with a recipe for Graham's Weird Curry, I'll be posting it up here!
